OUR AIMS

The aim of SeniorNet is to teach computer skills to older adults in an enjoyable, friendly way, and give them the opportunity to learn new skills enabling them to contribute their knowledge and wisdom to society and to communicate with the younger generation, by using the internet and new communication technology.

At SeniorNet Waimate, courses range from Introductory and Word Processing through to the more advanced courses i.e. Database, Spreadsheets, E-mail, World Wide Web, Scanning, Files and Disk Management, Zipping and Unzipping files etc. The manuals used are written specifically for the older person and are taught by volunteer tutors. Two tutors are assigned to a class of 6 students.

Help sessions are held each Wednesday and Friday from 2.00pm to 4.00pm where tutors are available to help members who are experiencing difficulties, or just need a guiding hand. Members of the public are also welcome on these practice days to come and visit the rooms and find out more about SeniorNet.

There is also a social side to our organisation when, on the 4th Thursday of every month, a social afternoon is held. This is a time when members can catch up with their classmates and tutors as well as listen to a qualified speaker. All older people should have the opportunity to continue their education regardless of age and this is what SeniorNet offers, " Participate in the Age in which You Live "
